Verizon Wireless to Sell Apple iPad

So much for all the rumors claiming that the iPhone is coming to buy dreamweaver Verizon. For now, the carrier is getting the iPad instead. Apple and Verizon Wireless today announced that the Apple iPad will be available in more than 2,000 Verizon Wireless retail stores starting October 28.
Wait. What about Apple's exclusive cheap dreamweaver contract with AT&T, you ask?
Here's the trick: Verizon won't sell the iPad (Wi-Fi + 3G)—the version of the tablet that runs on AT&T's 3G network, it will instead sell the Wi-Fi-only iPad with its own Verizon MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot.
The iPad will be available in three bundles:
Apple iPad 16GB + MiFi: $629.99
Apple iPad 32GB + MiFi: $729.99
Apple iPad 64GB + MiFi: $829.99
As far as data plans for the iPad, Verizon will offer one: Up to 1GB of data for $20 per month.
Essentially, Verizon's bundle prices are the same as what you'd pay for the iPad with integrated AT&T 3G. But Apple and AT&T offer a choice of two service plans: 250MB a month for $14.99 or 2GB month for $25.
Incidentally, AT&T today also buy dreamweaver announced that it would begin selling the Wi-Fi + 3G iPad in its retail stores on the same day: October 28.
The upside to buying an iPad from Verizon? Versatility: The MiFi provides Internet access for up to five devices at a range of about 30 to 40 feet. But it is one more thing to tote along with you, though the MiFi is only about the size of a pack of cigarettes, cheap dreamweaver but half as thick (3.5 by 2.3 by 0.4 inches).
It's also one more thing you need to keep charged. Battery life varies depending on how many devices you have connected at cheap software once. In our tests, with four Wi-Fi connections, the battery dropped to one bar in an hour. In 90 minutes, it was almost fully drained. On the other hand, more info we were able to eke out 8 hours and 5 minutes of power on the iPad (Wi-Fi + 3G) running the 3G modem nonstop.

New Windows Phone 7 Phones: Everything You Need to Know

Microsoft unleashed Windows Phone 7, its new mobile platform, with handsets for AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile, and PCMag spent hands-on time with all of them.
Microsoft finally took the wraps off Windows Phone 7, buy dreamweaver its new mobile platform today—and along with it came a plethora of handsets. All in all, AT&T gets three new Windows Phone 7 phones, T-Mobile gets two, and Sprint will start selling one early next year. Also, additional phones were announced on foreign carriers in Canada, Mexico, the U.K., Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Singapore, and Australia. The OS will debut in some European markets on Oct. 21.
PCMag was at the U.S. launch event incheap dreamweaver  New York City and we got quality hands-on time with all five of the U.S. handsets that will be released this year. And overall, we were impressed. According to mobile analyst, Sascha Segan, the newest mobile OS demos very well.

"I'm disturbed by some missing features," he said. "The worst is the lack of landscape format display support on many built-in apps, because that causes serious trouble for slider-style phones. (Points to Dell for dodging that bullet with a vertical slider!) And no multitasking means nobuy dreamweaver  Slacker Radio in the background, which is a real bummer."
"That said, the Zune, Xbox, and Microsoft Office experiences are really compelling, and the browser looks just plain awesome. I had a great time skimming Web pages and pinching to zoom," he added.
One thing common to all of these handsets: cheap dreamweaver Speed. They're all built around Qualcomm's 1-GHz QSD 8250 chipset. And they all have similar hardware stats including HSDPA 7.2, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 5-megapixel cameras. Besides that, here's the lowdown on all of the phones coming to AT&T and T-Mobile this year. HTC Surround (AT&T)
The Surround screams entertainment. HTC's first Windows Phone 7 device for AT&T features a built-in kickstand so it can sit on your desk to show movies. A standard Windows Phone with a twist, it looks like a slab-style, touch-screen phone, but slide the 3.8-inch display slightly tobuy dreamweaver the left and you get a large speaker that runs the full length of the phone, with a small square button that changes the equalizer settings to virtual surround sound.
LG Quantum (AT&T)
The first Windows Phone 7 device with a full keyboard has a finicky sliding mechanism and a bizarre keyboard layout that could kill its appeal. Windows Phone 7 also just doesn't seem to be designed for phones with landscape-format, sliding keyboards yet. Too many of the Windows Phone 7 screens don't rotate, leaving you craning your neck to try to operate the phone at a 90-degree angle. Also, this slider sports a strange QWERTY keyboard whose shift key is a tiny little silver circle in the upper left hand corner. Still, there's a lot to be said for a Windows Phone 7 with a keyboard. AT&T and LG said they would pitch the Quantum to businesses, where users will be digging into Windows Phone 7's excellent Microsoft Office capabilities.
Samsung Focus (AT&T)
Samsung's Focus is, along with the HTC HD7, one of the most impressive of the new crop of Windows Phones. This slab-style, touch-screen-only handset is the slimmest, the brightest and maybe the simplest. It's also the only Windows Phone that can expand with memory cards. buy dreamweaver The Focus's main selling point is its 4-inch 800-by-480 Super AMOLED screen.
Dell Venue Pro (T-Mobile)
With its 4.1-inch, 800-by-480 screen, the Dell Venue Pro is the Windows Phone 7 with a keyboard that might actually work: a vertical slider, so it's usable one-handed and it gets around Windows Phone 7's problems with rotating screens. Dell's contribution to Windows Phone 7 software is a free year's subscription to Pageonce Personal Finance, cheap dreamweaver a money management app. T-Mobile has added streaming T-Mobile TV, Netflix, Slacker Radio, Telenav navigation, and Family Room, a custom app to let ad-hoc family groups keep track of and send messages to each other.
HTC HD7 (T-Mobile)
The HTC HD7 is a big phone, we're talking Motorola Droid X-size. cheap software It has to be big to fit the 4.3-inch, 800-by-480 screen. Like the Samsung Focus, this is a simple, slab-style phone without a lot of bells and whistles. more info The built-in kickstand is useful, though; it pops out from around the camera housing and lets the phone sit on a table when it's playing a video. T-Mobile will sell the HD7 with Netflix and Slacker Radio on board, as well as the carrier's own MobiTV-powered T-Mobile TV.

Facebook's One-Time Passwords Aren't the Answer

Two new security features on Facebook are welcome signs that the company takes privacy and security seriously, but for me they raise as many questions as they answer.
The main change is the addition of optional one-time passwords (OTP). If you're on a computer you don't trust, such as a kiosk or in a cafe, and you don't want to buy dreamweaver enter your password, you can request a one-time password (by texting "otp" to 32665 from a US mobile phone). The OTP is returned as a reply text message. cheap dreamweaver Then user can then log in from any computer and the OTP is good for 20 minutes.
On the one hand I am impressed and tempted to ask why Facebook is able to do this when none of the major US banks can. On the other hand, there's a good reason why US banks don't implement one-time passwords exactly this way: If you were to lose your phone, even for a brief period, your account could be compromised.
Here's how it works: You go away, maybe to the bathroom, and leave your phone behind. Someone who knows your e-mail address picks cheap dreamweaver up your phone and requests a one-time password. They can then log into your Facebook account from any computer for 20 minutes.
The theory behind one-time passwords in most cases is to add a second factor to authentication, not to replace the one factor with a different single factor. In security terminology the OTP adds something you have (your phone) to something you know (your password). Facebook is doing this to save you from having to enter your password on a strange computer, not to strengthen authentication.
They could mitigate the problem of lost phones by always issuing a challenge question, what they call your Security Question on the Account Settings page. Facebook hasn't yet responded to my questions about it. I'd test it myself, but one-time passwords are being rolled out gradually and haven't reached my account yet. (I'll update this entry if they reply.)
The other thing about the OTP setup in Facebook is that after you do it, you're set up by default to receive numerous other notifications via text message. buy dreamweaver To quote Rob Pegoraro of the Washington Post on this, "...you'll want to switch over to your account's notifications page to stop the Palo Alto, Calif., company from messaging you about  cheap dreamweaver less important things. Here's a notification for Facebook management: When users adds their mobile numbers on an account-recovery page, it's sleazy and self-serving to assume they want to be texted about non-security issues." Hear, hear, Rob.
The other major new feature is that you can disconnect other open Facebook sessions by going into your Account Settings-Account cheap software Security page. There you will find a list of sessions, potentially opened weeks ago on computers far, far away. It's possible for someone else on the computer to take control of that session and, thereby, your Facebook account.

Now you have the option of disconnecting those sessions, but I'm disturbed to find that they don't disconnect automatically after some fairly brief period. buy dreamweaver Being able to disconnect sessions is great, but mostly this change exposes the other poor security decisions by Facebook.
The last change Facebook announced is that they will regularly remind users, when they log in, to update their security information, such as their security question, more info mobile phone number (for identification in case the password is lost) and e-mail addresses (for the same reason).
